WEEK 8

This week, Ting gave us the choice of either continuing with another facial animation or using the time to further develop the heavy object exercise. Because I’m still feeling overwhelmed from the previous week, I made the realistic decision to continue with the heavy object. After my one-to-one with Ting, I gradually worked on it, which helped me manage the task more focusedly and sustainably.

Looking back, this decision has been important because it showed me that progress does not always come from doing more, but from choosing what is most manageable and useful at that stage. Rather than rushing into a new animation, I’m prioritising improving something I was already struggling with, which feels more productive and honest for my development.

On Friday, we finished the week with our Project 1 presentations. Since I still did not have a clear idea for my FMP, I used the presentation as an opportunity to explore Sketch and Toon in Cinema 4D. Sketch and Toon are designed for non-photorealistic rendering and can create stylised, illustrated, or technical visual looks, which made it a useful area to test as a possible direction for my project. Although it was only a quick experiment, the presentation helped me start thinking more critically about whether this style could support my future work.

The Canva presentation also helped me organise my ideas visually and communicate an early-stage concept more clearly. Presenting something experimental rather than fully resolved felt slightly uncomfortable, but it was useful because it exposed a possible creative direction without the pressure of having everything decided yet. This reminded me that testing ideas publicly can be part of the development process, not a sign of being unprepared.

For improvement, I need to explore possible FMP directions earlier so I do not feel as uncertain when presenting.
