First previs (first scenes)

By mid-August I began building the first previsualisation.

At this stage, the purpose was not to develop materials, lighting or final design.

The previs was deliberately very rough.

I focused on:

  • camera
  • timing
  • scarf movement
  • scale
  • spatial progression
  • transitions between areas

The environmental blocks were mostly positioned at their final heights without finished animation.

After reviewing the first previs, I realised that the Discovery stage arrived too quickly.

I also started introducing moments where the scarf would disappear from frame and the audience could observe the world reacting independently.

This helped break the repeated pattern of simply following the scarf.

The previs also made timing much easier to evaluate.

After my experience with Held Together, I was particularly aware of the risk of either allowing shots to become too slow or making environmental transformations too fast to read.

Even though this was looking good as and advancement, I struggle to visualise the next zones, and how to animate it, I did various test for the next and nothing seem to click. So I believe I need to stop and reevaluate
