WEEK 11

his week, I wanted to go deeper into the Engine and start working on what I had set up and the material. I initially used the material Serra provided, but I wanted to make some tweaks.

This is Serra’s:

Then what I worked over this:

And the worked to get from this to this:

When I started importing the different meshes, the animations, especially the girl swinging, gave me problems all along. When I managed to import something, the girl kept disappearing or appearing wrongly.

So I had to keep on importing it. I exported everything from Maya as FBX files, as individual assets, so that I could manipulate them within the Engine. This was the first scene once I was able to import it completely; and with instances created for other elements. Nonetheless, I’ll add some details further.

As for the other three scenes, I modeled them.

In scene 4, I recycled the oven from scene 2 and added its exterior. For the character, I used the same rig as for the girl, but changed it a bit so it is ‘the baker’. In this scene, again, the animation is left to a minimum to keep the essence.

For scene 5, we are in the living room of the girl from the forest. Here, I wanted to add more detail to the ‘room’ to make it feel more homy. Again, the fire animation is recycled, but the character has a new movement. Even though I made 10 different rigs to try everything, the rig isn’t perfect, so the movement had to be even more subtle to avoid breaking the malla. That said, I’m thrilled and proud of how it turned out.

Scene 5 is the final set; since scene 6 uses the same, the only difference is the camera angle, which is an extreme close-up of the girl eating the turrón. The animation here is just the arms going to the girl’s face and the turrón becoming her smile at the end.

After all this, I made sure to have the UVs for everything, and I also created a quick preview to see what it would look like.
