I found this class really interesting and helpful since I have a great interest in materials, from using recycled materials to creating my own from scratch. We chose a random material to experiment with. We learned about roughness, specular, and ambient occlusion… as well as the possibilities to create parameters from the values and add, multiply or anything you can imagine to apply to the material.
The materials we created were:
-The basics: creating an instance as well to understand its use
-glass material: we not only experimented with transparency but also colour and texture within the glass
-Lights for projectors: I found this especially interesting and helpful in getting more ambience in a scene.
-Decal: Even though I wasn’t able to apply it correctly, I found this highly useful for specific details.

Regarding the final project, I received positive feedback on my idea for the nougat advertisement. After talking with Serra, I’ll model everything in Cinema 4D and use Substance 3D or directly in Unreal Engine for the scenery, textures, materials, and lights. What I didn’t take into account beforehand was the difficulty I might find in finding the textures I desire for the final render, as well as the possibility that I might need to focus on only one point of view (camera). Hence, there aren’t that many changes of scenery. I’ll be working on a graphic storyboard to see how to organise everything.
