The subject was introduced, along with an explanation of how we will be assessed. We went through the process of setting up Maya for the first time, which enables us to work on assignments at home and upload them to Synch Sketch. We were provided with references and resources to investigate and learn about this tool, as well as the basis for animation using the 12 Principles of Animation. To understand these ‘fast’, I created ‘SASS FOSAS TOSA ‘, each letter containing the first letter of each principle, for example: S for Squash and Stretch, A for Anticipation, S for Staging and so on…
Our first attempt at animation involves studying how a ball bounces and planning our own bouncing ball. At home, I watched the recorded class and the provided videos, following them closely. I started by searching for bouncing ball videos and choosing the football ball from this video:
Then I sketched a couple times until I got the desired option.

During the class, we were shown how to set a rigged element and reference it; however, at home, I struggled, and the rig did not work for me, resulting in an error in Maya. This didn’t allow me to move animate the rig or even to move it once ‘setting’ the object.

Nonetheless, I animated a normal sphere to complete the assignment.
