WEEK 6: Walk cycle

This week, we received feedback on our weight shift and pose. I was extremely proud to hear that I was doing really well and had understood the complexity of the assignment. George pointed out some tweaks I could make in my weight shift, as well as ways to improve the pose through just one of the camera views.

For this week’s assessment, we were tasked with creating a walk cycle. To begin this process, we recorded ourselves walking to use as a reference.

Afterward, I went to After Effects and worked frame by frame to analyze and calculate the steps for my planning. As mentioned in last week’s blog, a standard walk cycle is typically 12 frames; however, I decided to extend it to 16 frames for better divisions in the in-betweens. For my planning, I sketched it out and created a quick 2D animation.

I’m pleased with the outcome after posing it in Maya. I thought I would struggle more with the movement and controls, but I managed just fine. Here is the final result:
